RIJEČ UMJETNIČKOG RAVNATELJA
Dragi prijatelji Velikogoričkog brass festivala,
Neću biti daleko od istine ako kažem da se rijetko koji festival posvećen određenoj grupi instrumenata može podičiti, ne samo vrhunskim umjetnicima iz godine u godinu, nego i doprinosom repertoaru. Prisjetimo se Sonate Anthony Ploga koja je dovršena i praizvedena na Festivalu, djela Erica Ewazena inspiriranih Festivalom (Trio za trubu, violončelo i klavir, kvintet „Balkanika“) ili tria „Croatian“ Jamesa Stephensona koji pronosi ime Republike Hrvatske i u sebi ima sakriven Morseov kod riječi „Croatia“ te budi znatiželju za krovovima dubrovačkih kuća koji su poslužili kao inspiracija djelu. Festival dakle, ne samo da ugošćuje eminentne svirače, nego na neki način pronosi i ime domovine te spaja ljude.
Ove godine na rasporedu imamo 2 svjetske, 1 europsku te 3 hrvatske praizvedbe. „Sonata za kornet“ iz pera finskog skladatelja Harri Wessmana jedina je Sonata za kornet napisana u posljednjih 100 godina. Francuski skladatelj Vincent Jockin, čije ime je u usponu diljem svijeta, posvetio je svoje novonastalo djelo za trubu i gudački kvartet sjećanju na svog prijatelja – trubača amatera. Imat ćemo također priliku čuti i hrvatsku praizvedbu Sonate za klavir istog autora. Alan Holley, australski skladatelj koji je gostovao u Zagrebu pod pokroviteljstvom Festivala, s veseljem je prepustio europsku praizvedbu svojeg djela klarinetistu Bruni Philippu koji će s izraelskim trubačem Tamirom Aktom realizirati i hrvatsku praizvedbu rijetko izvođenog djela „Koncerta za trubu i klarinet“ Gordona Jacoba. Veseli nas da uz puhače „brass“ instrumenata možemo ugostiti i spojiti gudače i drvene puhače, a trubač Tamir Akta se pobrinuo da publici predoči program sačinjen od djela iz violinističke literature.
Uz koncerte, svaki od umjetnika će održati i radionicu za učenike i studente glazbe, a rumunjski trubač Sergiu Cârstea će predstaviti Metodu za trubu svojeg sunarodnjaka Dimitrua Ungureanua.
Prije koncerata, imat će priliku predstaviti se studenti Muzičke akademije. Radi se o perspektivnim mladim glazbenicima koji bi mogli, za koju godinu i sami biti istaknuta imena Festivala.
Ove godine, uz rekordan broj koncerata na Festivalu, sigurni smo da ćete uživati u glazbi i druženju s umjetnicima, te zajedno s njima proslaviti život i djelo velikana reproduktivne umjetnosti na trubi Maurice Andréa kojem smo u znak sjećanja posvetili 7. Velikogorički brass festival.

ART DIRECTOR'S NOTE
Dear friends of Velika Gorica Brass Festival,
I think it will not be so far from the truth to say that there are not so many specialized festivals which could not only present the list of eminent performers and artists and contribute to the music repertoire at the same time. Let me remind you of Sonata for trumpet by Anthony Plog – finished and premiered at the festival, or compositions by Eric Ewazen (Trio for trumpet, cello and piano and „Balkanika“ for brass quintet) or Trio „Croatian“ by James Stephenson. The latest piece is promoting Croatia troughout the world and has hidden morse code for „Croatia“ in it’s 3rd movement as well as an inspiration by Dubrovnik roofs in 2nd movement. So the Festival is not only a magnet for eminent artists but also inspires creating new pieces and promoting the name of it’s homeland. It also connects people.
This year the Festival presents 2 world, 1 European and 3 Croatian premieres. Sonata for cornet by Finish composer Harri Wessman is the only Sonata for the cornet written in the last 100 years. The French composer Vincent Jockin, whose name is growing in popularity over the world has dedicated his new work to the trumpet and string quartet in a remembrance of his friend who played trumpet and have died too early. Also, we will witness a Croatian premiere of his piano Sonata. Alan Holley, an australian composer who presented his work in October under the patronage of the Festival is happy to have premiered his work for clarinet solo by established Croatian clarinetist Bruno Philipp. Mr. Philipp will also play a premiere of a neglected Concerto for Trumpet and Clarinet by Gordon jacob together with Tamir Akta.
Together with brass instruments, we are happy to present strings and wooden wind instruments as well, on the Festival and Mr. Akta will present the repertoire for the violin on the trumpet.
Besides the concerts, each of the artists will have a workshop for students and Sergiu Cârstea, the Romanian trumpet player will present a Method for trumpet by Dimitru Ungureanu.
Before the concerts we will enjoy the performance of students of music. Maybe, this promising young musicians will become featured names on some of the future festivals.
There is the record number of concerts at the Festival, and we are sure that you will enjoy the music and comunication with the artists and that together we will glorify the life and work of the giant of trumpet Maurice André to whom we dedicate 7th Velika Gorica Brass Festival.
